GDPR is an European law which went into effect on May, 2018, wherein, this law governs how companies are allowed to use and process identifiable data. Nevertheless, any company who is willing to operate on internet platforms in the European Union, Norway, UK and Iceland are required to incorporate a data protection policy as per the GDPR regulation. If any company fails to comply with said regulations a steep penalty of up to 20 million euro or 4 percent of global turnover, whichever is high, can be imposed under European Law.

India is also in the process of implementing a stringent data protection rules, whereas, considering the rapid growth of startup ecosystem in the country, Government of India is forthcoming with the data protection law and amendments in the existing “information Technology Act, 2000” in accordance to the challenges revolving around the Data Protection on digital space.
